“The Winter Kills,” an action-thriller from the Black List, will feature Kiefer Sutherland in a starring role

Renowned for his portrayal in the hit series “24,” actor Kiefer Sutherland is slated to star in the upcoming action-thriller “The Winter Kills,” directed by John Stalberg Jr. of “Crypto” fame. In the film, Sutherland will play a former police officer on the hunt for a serial killer responsible for the murder of his partner a decade prior and who has resurfaced to continue their killing spree.

Ben Floro Carney wrote the script for the movie, and the film will be produced by a team that includes Patrick Rizzotti, Paul Johansson, David Guglielmo, John Jr, Wyatt Russell, Oliver Hudson, Stalberg Jr, and XYZ Films.

Production for “The Winter Kills” is scheduled to begin this spring in New Jersey, with Blue Fox Financing providing debt financing for the project. The movie will be introduced to potential buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin, where XYZ Films will also offer to finance.

“Kiefer Sutherland is more than just the perfect actor for this film, he’s an absolute legend, and I’m beyond thrilled to match his rare talent with a role that will require every ounce of it. I couldn’t imagine a better team of professionals, including Wyatt Russell and Oliver Hudson — my partners at Slow Burn along with Patrick Rizzotti, David Guglielmo, Paul Johanson and the crack team at XYZ to bring The Winter Kills to life,” said John Stalberg, Jr.

Kiefer Sutherland, famous for his roles in “24” and “Designated Survivor,” is currently working on the action series “Rabbit Hole,” which will be released on Paramount +. He was most recently seen on the Showtime series “The First Lady” and co-starred with Chris Pine in the Paramount action film “The Contractor.”

One of the film’s producers, Patrick Rizzotti, who previously produced “The Collector,” has launched a digital marketplace called Blue Fox Financing to connect filmmakers with debt lenders.

Meanwhile, XYZ Films has several projects in the works for the European Film Market, including “Seven Veils,” featuring Amanda Seyfried and directed by Atom Egoyan, “Daniela Forever,” starring Henry Golding, and “BlackBerry,” which is set to premiere in competition at the Berlinale.

Sutherland is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler, Feldman, and Clark, Inc., while Myman Greenspan Fox Rosenberg Mobasser Younger and Light represent Stalberg.
