The recent years in WWE have seen numerous title reigns that have set new records. Roman Reigns, the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, holds the longest world title reign in WWE’s modern era. The Usos’ reign as “SmackDown” Tag Team Champions is the longest tag title reign in WWE history. Another record was recently broken by GUNTHER, the WWE Intercontinental Champion. WWE marked the occasion by posting a video countdown and a message on Instagram to commemorate GUNTHER’s record-breaking feat.
GUNTHER’s reign as WWE Intercontinental Champion has been nothing short of impressive. With 245 days under his belt, he has surpassed Shelton Benjamin’s previous record of 244 days, which was set from October 2004 to May 2005. GUNTHER now joins the likes of Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Shinsuke Nakamura as one of only a few WWE superstars to hold the IC Title for over 200 days in the 21st century, with Rhodes, Orton, and Nakamura having reigns of 233, 209, and 201 days, respectively.
GUNTHER’s remarkable reign as the WWE Intercontinental Champion has not only lasted for a record-breaking 245 days but has also seen him successfully defend the title seven times. His impressive defense against Braun Strowman on the January 13 episode of “SmackDown” further solidified his standing as a top competitor. Rumors have been circulating that GUNTHER will defend his championship at WrestleMania in a three-way match against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, although this has not been officially confirmed. Regardless, GUNTHER has established himself as a force to be reckoned with and a worthy holder of the prestigious Intercontinental Title.
