In a short period, the Gunns established themselves as the premier heels in AEW’s highly competitive tag team division. And now, Austin Gunn and Colten Gunn have achieved their first AEW World Tag Team Championship title.
In tonight’s main event of AEW Dynamite, the reigning AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens), put their title on the line against The Gunns. The show’s centerpiece was the highly anticipated match between these two mighty teams.
During the match’s final moments, the referee was unintentionally taken out. Austin Gunn attempted to take advantage of the situation by introducing the championship belt into the ring. However, his father, Billy Gunn, appeared on the scene, only to be felled by his son.
In a last-ditch effort to secure the win, Anthony Bowens attempted to pin Colten Gunn. However, Colten managed to kick out, leaving the door open for Austin Gunn to strike Anthony with the championship title. With this opportunity, Colten made the winning pin on Anthony to secure their victory.
Last week on AEW Dynamite, Billy Gunn gave his sons a chance at the tag team championships. The heated exchange between Daddy Ass and The Gunns resulted in the heel team earning a title shot without the consent of The Acclaimed.
